Island Arks Symposium
Sustainable use of island ecosystems requires strong inter-disciplinary knowledge bases including terrestrial and marine ecology, coastal engineering, fire ecology, invasive species management, waste management, communication and marketing, and environmental economics.
The Island Arks Symposium aims to bring together practitioners in these disciplines to identify, discuss and resolve management challenges; identifying pathways for long-term conservation of island ecosystems including sustainable use.

National Tree Day
National Tree Day, proudly sponsored by Toyota and the AMP Foundation, is Australia's biggest community tree-planting event. Since Tree Day started in 1996 more than 1.5 million volunteers have planted over 11.5 million native trees and shrubs!
National Water Week
National Water Week (NWW) was first held in 1993. The initiative is designed to assist the community to understand and take action to protect and conserve our precious water resources and habitats. NWW creates a large scale local awareness of community initiatives that generate long-term behaviour change for the protection, rehabilitation and improvement of streams, wetlands, waterways, beaches, and estuaries. In addition, water conservation campaigns are launched, highlighted or reinforced during the week to promote water saving in the community. During NWW Australians are encouraged to "Protect, Conserve and Get Involved" in water-related activities and celebrations around the country. The third week in October is designated as 'National Water Week' each year.
Earth Science Week
This annual event promotes awareness of and an opportunity to celebrate the earth sciences. In recognition of Earth Science Week 2008, Geoscience Australia is hosting the Geologi 08. All Australian secondary school students are invited to take part by submitting a short science film.
