Island Arks Symposium
Sustainable use of island ecosystems requires strong inter-disciplinary knowledge bases including terrestrial and marine ecology, coastal engineering, fire ecology, invasive species management, waste management, communication and marketing, and environmental economics.
The Island Arks Symposium aims to bring together practitioners in these disciplines to identify, discuss and resolve management challenges; identifying pathways for long-term conservation of island ecosystems including sustainable use.

| NRM & Local Government Planning Support Tool, Western Australia | |
|---|---|
The NRM & Local Government Planning Support Tool focuses on providing locally relevant best planning practices for land use and development types in the Southern Region of Western Australia, and links to resources to support implementation of the best practices. Initially the focus is on rural residential/smallholding development and vineyards but will be expanded to other uses and development types over time. The support tool is based on a wiki or collaborative website which has been "seeded" with content through the a register or database of support material, together with hot links to live website with additional / current information and spatial products. This means that the content is easily updated and expanded. As it is a wiki, registered users can easily comment on the content and add suitable material where gaps may exist. | |

| Landscape Logic - e-newsletter | Landscape Logic is a research hub under the Commonwealth Environmental Research Facilities scheme, managed by the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. It is a partnership between six regional organisations, five research institutions and state land management agencies in Tasmania and Victoria. The aim of Landscape Logic is to improve the way decisions are made about land use and the resulting effects on water and vegetation. Landscape Logic is focusing on two major knowledge gaps in the current regional investment process. 1. Finding better ways to organise existing knowledge and assumptions about links between land management actions and environmental outcomes. 2. Improving our understanding of these links through historical studies of the effects of past private and public investment on environmental condition in two areas – water quality and native vegetation condition. Subscribe to the newsletter to keep up to date with activities of the hub. |
