AWA Catchment Management Conference
Healthy catchments, healthy communities: integrating catchment actions
- A conference about catchment management
22 to 23 August, 2011 - Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre.
Objective: Building co-operative relationships with land managers and catchment managers in relation to water supply aspects of catchment management.
Registrations are now open! Early-bird closes 30 June 2011. Download the flyer or register here.
The AWA Catchment Management Specialist Network has organised this conference to build linkages between all the parties with responsibilities for improving catchment management. Many agencies have embarked on proactive management strategies to improve the quality of catchments - provision of safe drinking water is just one of the many goals that can be achieved from such initiatives.
We aim to promote cooperation between natural resource managers and water utilities to identify and achieve common goals of improved water quality and catchment sustainability. The aim of this conference will be to link managers of natural resources with managers of water utility supplies to establish networks of communication and to identify mutually synergistic goals and actions for the benefit of catchments.
The organising Committee hopes that a wide range of people with diverse interests in water will come together and share their views to encourage innovation and development through cross-fertilisation of ideas.

Salinity Exchange Conference
The salinity conversation will be re-invigorated and hotly debated when the Murray Catchment Management Authority hosts the “Salinity Exchange Conference” in Albury, NSW.
The conference, sponsored by the Murray Catchment Management Authority, the Murray Darling Basin Authority, Norske Skog and the Australian Government, will put the spotlight back on salinity and look at what has been learnt over the past 10 years and how to apply this knowledge to farming and natural resource management.
Over two days, eminent scientists, farmers and government agencies will exchange views on effective ways to reduce the impact of salinity, to give those in the field some practical ways to attack this problem.
Leading the speakers will be Dr. John Williams, Commissioner of the Natural Resources Commission of NSW. He will be joined by speakers from the Department of Environment & Climate Change, scientists from CSIRO, the Murray Darling Fresh Water Research Centre, the Bureau of Rural Sciences, Murray Irrigation Limited and landholders, to discuss salinity in both dryland and irrigation areas.
The Salinity Exchange Conference, to be held 19 & 20 February 2009 is expected to draw over 200 people from the scientific community, farmers and public land managers.
The conference program, speaker information, accommodation discounts, registration forms and other conference information is available on the Murray CMA website www.murray.cma.nsw.gov.au. Please contact Emily Brewer at the Murray CMA on 02 6051 2211 for further information.

| Landscape Logic - e-newsletter | Landscape Logic is a research hub under the Commonwealth Environmental Research Facilities scheme, managed by the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. It is a partnership between six regional organisations, five research institutions and state land management agencies in Tasmania and Victoria. The aim of Landscape Logic is to improve the way decisions are made about land use and the resulting effects on water and vegetation. Landscape Logic is focusing on two major knowledge gaps in the current regional investment process. 1. Finding better ways to organise existing knowledge and assumptions about links between land management actions and environmental outcomes. 2. Improving our understanding of these links through historical studies of the effects of past private and public investment on environmental condition in two areas – water quality and native vegetation condition. Subscribe to the newsletter to keep up to date with activities of the hub. |
