Marxan

Decision support for reserve system design. It finds reasonably efficient solutions to the problem of selecting a system of spatially cohesive sites that meet a suite of biodiversity targets. Given reasonably uniform data on species, habitats and/or other relevant biodiversity features and surrogates for a number of planning units Marxan minimizes the cost while meeting user-defined biodiversity targets. Coastcare Week

Coastcare consist of 60,000 local heroes in 2,000 community groups around the country, and Coastcare Week, 3 -9 December 2007, celebrates these amazing individuals and their great achievements.

Coastcare is all about finding practical solutions to local environmental issues, and local heroes are the driving force behind many Coastcare groups and their efforts to protect and conserve our coastal environment.

These local heroes are keeping the great Australian tradition of volunteering alive, bringing their communities together and conserving the local coastline while enjoying the great outdoors with family or good mates.

Earth Day

Earth Day, April 22, each year marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson, then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, proposed the first nationwide environmental protest "to shake up the political establishment and force this issue onto the national agenda. " "It was a gamble," he recalls, "but it worked."

The Earth Day Network works year round to broaden the environmental movement through education, programs and partnerships that affect change at the local, national and international level. Our mission is to broaden the environmental movement worldwide and to educate and mobilize people, governments, and corporations to take responsibility for a clean and healthy environment.
